Shoemaker’s softball team clinched a playoff spot for the first time in 10 years, and the Lady Grey Wolves are proud to be a part of this historic team.
“Coming here as a freshman, Shoemaker was the laughing stock of softball,” Deborah Hamilton said. “It really means everything, to help build this program, and turn it around, and help break that 10 year streak.”
“It’s an amazing feeling, walking around school and having everyone saying congratulations, not only staff, but students,” Tamera Johnson said.
“It’s just a great feeling to be a part of something as big as this,” Madelyn Morua said. “Because we’re basically making history.”
Senior transfer, shortstop Tamera Johnson, has played a key role in the team’s success, however, she might be ruled out for the playoffs, after suffering a knee injury this past week.
“Tamera, she’s a team leader,” Steve Mattox said. “Her just being here, whether she can play or not come Wednesday, she’s gonna be clapping them up, talking them up.”
“Being a leader, is just to tell the person that’s stepping for me, and in for next person, you got it, we’re all a team, you’re no less then me,” Johnson said.
“It’s gonna be hard,” Madalyne Martinez said. “But she’s gonna be on the sidelines, cheering us on, and that’s what counts.”
Shoemaker plays Rockwell on Wednesday at Waco ISD, and it’s the best of three playoff format. Click the video above for more on the Lady Grey Wolves.
