ATHENS, Ga. – Texas A&M Softball had its seven-game winning streak come to an end Friday as the Aggies fell to No. 12 Georgia, 11-5, Friday at Jack Turner Stadium.
Trailing 3-0 after the first, the Aggies used a five-run third inning to gain the lead. Texas A&M (24-14, 2-8 SEC) quickly loaded the bases and scored on three-straight at bats on a hit by pitch, a Payton McBride single and a Riley Sartain bases-loaded walk. A Georgia defensive miscue on a fly ball allowed two additional runs to score to cap off the inning.
The Bulldogs (29-10, 4-6 SEC) chipped away at the lead, scoring at least one run in the next four innings, including a five-run sixth, highlighted by a Savana Sikes grand slam.
Offensively the Aggies were led by Kelbi Fortenberry, who went 2-for-4 and recorded her team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season. McBride extended her hitting streak to nine games with her single in the third and tallied her team-leading 27th RBI.
McBride was saddled with the loss to move to 8-4 on the year. The southpaw allowed six runs on 14 hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
